Heart Formations — The Heart as a Memory Organ of the Ice Civilization

The Heart Formations series begins with a simple question:

What if the heart were not a symbol of emotion, but a structure shaped by matter itself?

In this body of work, the heart is not painted but revealed.

Pigment, water, and frozen temperature collide and retreat, leaving behind traces that gather into a slowly forming structure. These movements behave like geological events — melting, sedimentation, erosion — processes that exceed human intention. The resulting heart is therefore not mine, nor anyone’s. It belongs to the Ice Civilization, a non-human system of ethics and memory that emerges from the autonomous behavior of matter.

Each painting contains the residue of physical negotiation:

flows that refuse control, colors that migrate on their own, and vibrations that carve faint boundaries. The heart becomes a site where matter thinks — where temperature becomes a kind of logic, and pigment becomes a record of time. Through these processes, the works propose a new ethical orientation: that memory does not solely belong to humans, and that identity may arise even when no subject intends it.

The heart in this series becomes a topography.

It resembles weather maps, planetary scans, biological tissues, or forgotten landscapes. Yet regardless of the reference, the form suggests that emotion and memory are inseparable from physical conditions. The Ice Civilization, as presented here, is an alternative self — a mirror that reflects how survival, decay, and transformation construct their own meaning.

Ultimately, Heart Formations is a record of a moment in which matter learns to remember itself.

The paintings do not express sentiment; they express temperature.

They do not depict a heart; they reveal the memory of a pulse that was never human.

Heart Formations — 얼음 문명의 기억 기관으로서의 심장

‘Heart Formations’ 시리즈는 한 가지 질문에서 출발한다.

심장이 감정의 상징이 아니라, 물질이 스스로 빚어낸 구조라면 어떻게 될까?

이 작업에서 심장은 그려지는 것이 아니라 드러난다.

색과 물, 온도가 충돌하고 흩어지며 남긴 흔적이 천천히 모여 하나의 형태를 만든다. 이러한 움직임은 지층이 쌓이고 침식되는 과정처럼 인간의 의도보다 훨씬 오래된 질서를 따른다. 따라서 이 심장은 나의 것도, 누구의 것도 아니다. 물질의 자율적 행동으로 생성된 얼음 문명의 윤리와 기억에 속한다.

각 작품에는 저항하는 흐름, 제어할 수 없는 색의 이동, 미세한 진동의 경계들이 남아 있다.

이 순간들은 물질이 스스로 사고하는 장면처럼 보인다.

온도는 하나의 논리가 되고, 색은 시간의 기록이 된다.

이 과정 속에서 작업은 새로운 윤리를 제안한다 —

기억은 인간에게만 속한 것이 아니며, 정체성은 의도가 없어도 만들어질 수 있다는 것이다.

이 심장은 지형과도 같고, 기상도나 생물의 조직, 혹은 잊힌 풍경처럼 보인다.

하지만 어떤 이미지로 읽히든, 감정과 기억은 물질 조건과 분리될 수 없음을 말한다.

여기서의 얼음 문명은 또 다른 자아이며, 생존·침식·변형이 스스로 의미를 만드는 세계이다.

결국 ‘Heart Formations’는 물질이 스스로 기억하는 법을 배운 순간의 기록이다.

이 회화는 감정을 표현하지 않는다.

온도를 표현한다.

심장을 묘사하지 않는다.

인간이 아닌 어떤 존재가 남긴 미세한 맥락의 흔적을 드러낼 뿐이다.
