ARTIST STATEMENT

Artist’s Note — The Pulse of a Vanishing Civilization

My work begins with a simple question:

Can matter think?

Through ice, pigment, sedimentation, and collapse, I explore a world where material processes behave like a form of intelligence — forming, vibrating, eroding, and remembering without human intention. I call this world the Ice Civilization.

In this civilization, the heart is not a symbol of emotion,

but a landscape shaped by temperature and pressure.

It emerges as water, pigment, and gravity negotiate their own memory,

becoming a non-human organ of remembrance.

The heart is the pulse of the material world —

a vibration, a trace, a temporary organ created by melting time.

The Ice Strata record ecological, social, and political sediments.

Fluid Cross-Sections expose the internal logic of melting pigment.

Ice Tools melt as they draw, questioning authorship and human control.

And Ice Ruins become archaeological evidence of a vanished culture that existed only within the lifespan of a temperature.

My role is not to create images but to witness these processes.

I observe the moment when matter organizes itself, when collapse becomes structure, when disappearance becomes memory. Each melting edge, each fragment of pigment, each vibration is a sentence written by the world itself.

For me, art is not about permanence.

It is about the intensity of transformation —

the brief moment when matter reveals its inner logic and then vanishes.

The Ice Civilization is my way of listening to this logic.

A way of understanding the world not through emotion,

but through the fragile intelligence of material life.

작가노트 — 사라지는 문명의 맥박

나의 작업은 한 가지 질문에서 시작된다.

“물질은 사고할 수 있는가?”

얼음, 안료, 침전, 붕괴라는 과정을 통해

나는 인간의 의도 없이 형성·진동·침식·기억하는

비인간적 지성의 세계를 탐구한다.

나는 이 세계를 **‘얼음 문명(Ice Civilization)’**이라 부른다.

이 문명 속에서 하트는 감정의 상징이 아니다.

온도와 압력, 흐름이 스스로 기억을 협상하며 만들어낸

비인간적 기억 기관이다.

하트는 물질의 표면에서 발생하는 맥박이며,

녹는 시간 속에서 잠시 나타났다가 사라지는 진동이다.

**얼음 지층(Strata)**은 생태적·정치적·사회적 기억을 쌓아 올린 기록이다.

**단면(Cross-Section)**은 압력과 안료의 흐름이 드러나는 내부 지형이다.

**얼음 도구(Tools)**는 녹아내리며 스스로 흔적을 남겨

저자의 위치를 흔든다.

**폐허(Ruins)**는 짧게 존재했던 문명의 고고학적 잔해가 된다.

나는 이미지를 ‘만드는’ 사람이 아니라,

물질이 스스로 조직되는 순간을 목격하는 사람이다.

붕괴가 구조가 되고, 사라짐이 기억이 되는 그 순간을 기록한다.

녹아내린 가장자리, 스스로 이동한 안료, 떨리는 표면—

이 모든 것은 세계가 직접 쓴 문장이다.

예술은 영속성에 있지 않다.

예술은 변형의 강도 속에 있다.

물질이 스스로의 논리를 드러내는

아주 짧고 강렬한 순간 속에 존재한다.

얼음 문명은

세계의 논리에 귀를 기울이는 나의 방식이며,

감정이 아닌 물질의 지성을 통해

세계와 관계 맺는 또 하나의 방법이다.
